THUNDER BAY – One of the accused in an assault that took place late Monday night on Amelia Street was involved in past assaults connected to incidents in which her boyfriend and her sister died.

Kimberly Fox, 40, of Thunder Bay, has been charged with aggravated assault of a local man.

Another Thunder Bay woman, Riva Moonias, was also charged after police were called to the 200 block of West Amelia just before 10 p.m. Monday.

Police said Tuesday that the victim, who appeared to have suffered serious injuries, was in stable condition in hospital.

Fox pleaded guilty to aggravated assault after the 2012 death of her boyfriend, Moses Meekis Kakekagumick. Her lawyer submitted that Fox’s actions had been in self-defense.

An initial charge of second-degree murder was withdrawn, after expert pathologists could not say beyond a reasonable doubt that Fox’s actions were responsible for Kakekagumick’s death.

She received a two-year sentence, plus 18 months of probation.

Fox also pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm after the 2016 death of her sister, Charlotte Hudson.

Hudson was found to have died of strangulation.

A witness said the sisters had been involved in a physical altercation earlier on the night Hudson died, and forensic DNA evidence confirmed Hudson’s blood was on Fox’s shoes.

Fox was originally charged with second-degree murder in that case, as well. However, that count was discharged as it could not be proven who was responsible for Hudson's death.

Fox was sentenced to 18 months in the case.

Fox appeared in bail court Tuesday, along with Moonias, and was remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
