UPDATED: Accused in stabbing incident arrested after fleeing from custody

A man was taken to hospital following an argument late Thursday night.

THUNDER BAY - A woman is facing numerous charges following an assault on the city's north side late Thursday night. 

According to the Thunder Bay Police, officers responded to reports of an assault at a residence on the 200 block of Windsor Street at approximately 11:45 Thursday night. 

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned an adult male was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by paramedics for treatment of injuries consistent with a stabbing. 

Following an investigation, police identified 22-year-old Brianna Lynn Netemegesic as a suspect. According to police, Netemegesic and the victim were known to each other and in the residence when an argument began before escalating and becoming physical. The victim was then assault with a weapon. 

Netemegesic was also transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries. While in hospital, Netemegesic attempted to flee from police but she was returned to custody following a brief struggle. 

Netemegesic was charged with aggravated assault, escape lawful custody, fail to comply with an undertaking, and breach of probation. 

She appeared in court on Friday and was released with a future court date in June. 

Netemegesic has previously been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection to the 2020 death of Rae Towegishig on Picton Avenue. A 15-year-old youth was also charged with second-degree murder in connection to the incident and will appear in court again in March 2022. 

Netemegesic was also involved in a standoff on Picton Avenue in November 2020 following reports of a firearms incident. She had been released on bail in August 2020 following the second-degree murder charge and was arrested again in March 2021. 

The second-degree murder charge was withdrawn by the Crown earlier this year and she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault with a weapon in connection to the incident. She was sentenced to time served, with credit of nine months, and two years probation.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 200 block of Windsor Street at about 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 16 following reports of an assault that had just occurred. 

Police learned an adult male victim had been transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by Superior North EMS paramedics for further treatment of injuries consistent with a stabbing. 

An investigation identified a female accused. 

Police learned the victim and accused were known to each other. Police also learned the pair were in the same residence together that evening when an argument began. The argument escalated and became physical, at which point the female accused assaulted the male with a weapon. 

The accused, while in police custody, was also treated for injuries at the TBRHSC. While at the hospital, the accused attempted to flee from police. Police managed to return her to custody after a brief struggle. 

After receiving treatment at the hospital, the female accused was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street. 

Brianna Lynn NETEMEGISIC, 22, of Thunder Bay, is charged with: 

• Aggravated Assault 
• Escape Lawful Custody 
• Fail to Comply with Undertaking 
• Breach of Probation 

She appeared in bail court on Friday, Dec. 17 and was released with a future appearance date of Jan. 21, 2022.
