THUNDER BAY - A man charged with fleeing from police and dangerous driving after officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop may seek bail.
Raymond Edward Legarde, 35, of Fort William First Nation is charged with two counts of flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, breach of probation and failing to comply with bail conditions.
Legarde appeared in Thunder Bay court on Thursday by audio before Justice of the Peace Anna Gibbon. An agent for his Legarde's lawyer, Thomas Bud, requested the matter be put over to May 20 to set a date for a bail hearing.
On May 9, Thunder Bay Police Service say they observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Franklin Street when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign just before Miles Street.
When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver slowed down briefly before driving off at high speed.
Police say the vehicle drove south on Vickers Street and failed to stop at a red light on Arthur Street. This led police to discontinue efforts to stop the vehicle due to concerns about public safety. Legarde was later arrested by Anishinabek Police Service.
He will return to court on May 20.
