Between two to three acres of brush were destroyed by a grass fire near a bike path off County Boulevard late Monday afternoon.

"We sent three pumpers and a four-by-four because there’s a lot of grass and dead wood and the fire was getting close to the houses here," said Hodder Avenue fire captain Dan Oinonen. "We’re lucky it’s a cool, damp day with no winds so the fire didn’t really spread too quickly."

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and Oinonen said it could be kids or careless discarding of cigarettes.

He added the area is prone to grass fires because of the walkways and dead grass around the area.
