Active count steady as health unit reports one new case

Active cases have remained in single digits since late June in the Thunder Bay District.

THUNDER BAY – The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District held steady at five Friday, with a single new case reported and a previous case declared resolved.

That continued weeks of steady case counts, with the number of active cases in the district remaining in the single digits since June 28.

The new case reported Friday involved a Thunder Bay area resident, and had no known exposure category.

The health unit also reported one additional case had screened positive for a COVID-19 variant of concern. The agency has reported three VOC cases in August after reporting none in July.

The health unit has reported a total of 3,354 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the district since the pandemic began. Of those, five were active and 3,285 were considered resolved, while the virus was a contributing or underlying cause of 64 local deaths.
