Active COVID-19 case count climbs to 61

There were 11 new COVID-19 cases reported on Thursday and only two previous cases considered resolved.

THUNDER BAY - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District has increased again and is the highest its been in more than a month.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 11 new COVID-19 cases. With only two previous cases considered resolved, the active case count has climbed to 61.

The number of active cases has remained below 60 since April 30 when it was 63.

Of the new cases, two are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, five are in First Nation communities, and four from district communities.

Close contact accounts for 10 of the new cases while the exposure category for the remaining case is listed as unknown.

There was one new variant of concern identified, bringing the total to 123.

There are also three new hospitalizations due to COVID-19, bringing the total number of district residents in hospital to six.

To date, the Thunder Bay District has recorded 3,252 positive cases of COVID-19.
