THUNDER BAY — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay district has dropped to a dozen.

The district health unit on Tuesday morning reported seven cases had been resolved over the previous 24 hours, while only one new case came to light in the same period.

The patient is a resident of the City of Thunder Bay or surrounding townships.

Tracing of the source of the infection continues.

Elsewhere in Northwestern Ontario, the Kenora-based Northwestern Health Unit reported two active cases in its service area as of Monday.

The low numbers in the Northwest contrast sharply with other areas of Northern Ontario such as the Algoma and Sudbury districts, where some COVID-19 restrictions are being reimposed because of recent large increases in case counts.

On Monday, there were 168 active cases in Algoma, and 262 in the Sudbury district.
