People in Thunder Bay will be hearing poetry and music in the strangest of places over the next week.

The Definitely Superior Art Gallery has kicked off their seventh annual Random Acts of Poetry throughout Thunder Bay. The event will feature 24 singers, songwriters and poets in over 30 performances on street corners, coffee shops and public institutions.

“We’re performing in places where the general public lives their everyday lives,” said the gallery’s Renee Terpstra. “It’s really kindred to the idea of random acts of kindness.”

The performers wear orange coveralls and hold signs to look like a construction crew.

Terpstra said the gallery started the event to get the public aware of their own creativity and to expose Thunder Bay to its arts community.

“And just get people to appreciate the diversity of talent in our community,” she said.

Thunder Bay is an incredibly creative place to live and the performances have always been very well received by members of the public. And with more than 1,000 people watching the performances last year, Terpstra said that makes it one of the largest poetry events in the country.

To find a schedule people can visit the gallery at 250 Park Ave. or its Facebook page.
