THUNDER BAY — Voter turnout in advance polls across Ontario jumped significantly from the 2014 election, but not so in the two Thunder Bay-area ridings.

In the province as a whole, Elections Ontario reported about an 18 per cent increase in voter turnout during the advance polls between May 26 and June 1.

In Thunder Bay-Superior North, 4,838 voters took advantage of the opportunity to cast their ballots before the June 7 election.

That was a drop of about 4 per cent from the last Ontario election.

In Thunder Bay-Atikokan, 3,942 people voted in advance polls, an increase of about 6 per cent from the 2014 election.
