THUNDER BAY – Advance polling for the Oct. 21 federal election is underway in Thunder Bay.

But voters only have four days to take advantage of casting a ballot ahead of Election Day.

Ian Simpson, the returning officer in Thunder Bay-Rainy, said turnout has been good on Day 1 at polls across the riding.

But the weather may be having an effect on numbers.

“I don’t think it’s become overwhelming yet, in terms of being able to handle it ... I’m expecting it to get busier. Logic would say it’s going to be busy today and tomorrow. Sunday and Monday, with the Thanksgiving holiday, might not be as busy,” said Simpson on Friday.

Polls are located at a number of locations around Thunder Bay and in the district.

“If they live in the area serviced by the advance polls they can go in there with their ID and their voter identification cards and they can vote. Also, they can come in (to the returning office) and vote by special ballot – or any returning office in the west end,” Simpson said.

Advance polls are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day from Friday to Monday.

Voters must bring identification in order to vote.
