THUNDER BAY -- One man was taken to hospital following an aggravated assault.

According to a release, city police responded to an assault in progress Friday on West Arthur Street just before 8 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old male victim and three individuals in the area.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged Armand George Cummings, 43, with aggravated assault.

Cummings is also facing a charge of manslaughter for his alleged role in 2016 death of 35-year-old Mannie Spence, whose body was found in a compound on Court Street.

A judge is expected to make a ruling on whether or not that Cummings will stand trial for the manslaughter charge. The assault charge will also be addressed in court at that time.

Cummings remains in custody.
