Aggravated assault sends one man to hospital

A 29-year-old man is facing aggravated assault charges following an early morning incident that sent one man to hospital.

THUNDER BAY – One man was taken to hospital following an aggravated assault early Wednesday morning.

Thunder Bay Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Cumberland Street North following reports that a man had been stabbed in the chest just after 5:30 a.m.

According to a police release, when officers arrived they located a victim being attended to by employees of a nearby Tim Hortons restaurant.

Police learned the victim was approached by a male who was known to him in the 200 block of Egan Street. An argument followed, at which point the accused male assaulted the victim.

Around the time police were speaking to the victim officers spotted a vehicle, believed to be driven by the accused, heading southbound in the zero-to-100 block of Cumberland Street.

Police approached the vehicle, located the accused inside and completed the arrest without incident.

Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital for further treatments of his injuries.

A 29-year-old Thunder Bay man is charged with aggravated assault and failure to comply with condition recognizance.

He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
