Agricultural Research Station still slated to close by year’s end

With no new funding in sight, the Agricultural Research Station off Highway 61 is slated to close at the end of the year. The station is located in the riding of MPP Bill Mauro (Lib., Thunder Bay – Atikokan).

With no new funding in sight, the Agricultural Research Station off Highway 61 is slated to close at the end of the year.

The station is located in the riding of MPP Bill Mauro (Lib., Thunder Bay – Atikokan).

Mauro says it's time for officials at the station to begin looking for alternative sources of funding.

The station's manager told TBT News last week that accessing other funding will be impossible, and he's calling on the government to change its position.

Mauro says the province has been the financial backbone of the research station since 2003 and now officials there need to look at other options.

Mauro adds that the station has received some money from the federal government, for a long-term sustainability report, but he did not know whether or not that report provided future financial opportunities.
