Airport prepares for March Break travel amid Covid-19 concerns

Travelers are asked to regularly check airline websites for updates on specific flights
Thunder Bay International Airport

THUNDER BAY - Those looking to travel this upcoming March Break are being advised to check frequently with airlines as fears over Covid-19 may impact travel plans.

The Thunder Bay International Airport said in a media release issued on Wednesday that it is continuing to work with municipal, provincial, and federal agencies to monitor Covid-19 and the impacts it may have on air travel.

“As airlines assess the impacts on their respective businesses, it is possible that some services may be impacted,” the release reads. “TBIAA recommends that passengers check regularly with airline websites for updates on their specific flights.”

The airport has also increased the number of hand sanitizers in the airport terminal and cleaning frequency has been increased in all public areas.

Awareness posters are also being displayed in the terminal with information on recommended practices for travelers from the World Health Organization.

The World Health Organization advises all travelers should practice frequent hand hygiene, covering your nose and mouth with a flexed elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing, refrain from touching your nose or mouth, and medical masks are not required if exhibiting no symptoms.

The update issued by the Thunder Bay International Airport comes following confirmation that a man in Sudbury who recently returned from the Prospectors and Developers Association conference in Toronto tested positive for Covid-19.

Approximately 100 delegates from Thunder Bay attended the same conference.

Anyone seeking more information is asked to visit the Thunder Bay District Health Unit website and the government of Canada for all the latest travel advisories.
