Alberta couple wins $1 million on ticket bought in Pass Lake

Winning ticket bought at Pass Lake Truck Stop by couple traveling from Alberta to Ottawa.
Ticket sold in Ontario claims record $64 million Lotto 649 jackpot

THUNDER BAY – A recent stop in near Pass Lake, Ont. made an Alberta couple $1 million richer.

Donald and Pearl Dale, who call Sylvan Lake, Alta. home, told Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation officials that they always see big Lotto Max winners coming from Ontario, so on a whim purchased a ticket for the Sept. 8 draw after stopping at the Pass Lake Truck Stop.

They were headed to Ottawa to visit family.

We decided that when we crossed the border into the province that we would buy a ticket,” Don said, while in Toronto to claim their winnings.

They didn’t think much of it on Sept. 9, when they checked their ticket at a retailer in Sault Ste. Marie.

“I had no idea that the ticket was a big winner when I handed it to the cashier. The terminal shut down after it was scanned and when I saw all the zeroes, we knew that this was something special,” Pearl said.

The couple plan to invest some of their windfall, then travel even more.

“Hawaii, Mexico, California, a Panama riverboat cruise….the list is long,” Don said.
