THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Transportation Museum Society is making a month-long push to raise money to open the former Canadian Coast Guard ship Alexander Henry to the public.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, they can double their donations, the mystery giver promising to match dollar-for-dollar funds raised in March.

Organizers say it will be money well spent.

“Connecting the City of Thunder Bay back to our lake and to our history is an important step in revitalizing our waterfront through this animated and cherished historical artifact,” said Charlie Brown, president of the Lakehead Transportation Museum Society.

“For those who wishing to donate $19.58, commemorating the year that the vessel came into service, you will receive an exclusive sneak peek prior to the official opening.”

To make the donation, visit www.ltms.ca and you will receive a voucher to attend this very special event.

The ship, which spent decades as a tourist attraction in Kingston, Ont., was returned to Thunder Bay last year and is expected to open to the public in late May.
