THUNDER BAY - A grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation has been put to good use by the Lakehead Transportation Museum Society (LTMS), supporting its operations with the Alexander Henry.

Thunder Bay-Superior North MPP Lise Vageois offered her congratulations to the LTMS and stressed the importance of maintaining the famous icebreaker.

“It’s a wonderful place of to educate ourselves about our transportation and so they have programs for young people, they have programs for seniors,” she said. “And I can say I've been here, It is a fantastic place.”

The nearly $12,500 in funding received last year helped purchase maintenance equipment for the historic vessel signage in the area and allowed the group to manage COVID 19 restrictions and LTMS President, Charlie Brown, says that he’s glad that the organization was able to secure funds.

“We're always looking for grants through other levels of government, whether it's federal, provincial, municipal,” he said. “And when they come available for operations like us, we do apply and we were really fortunate this year to secure the funds from the OTF.”

The Alexander Henry is currently being used for the Haunted Harbor Halloween tours, which are completely sold out, and Brown says that their future plans include expanding the property at the Pool 6 dock.
