Alleged assaulter surprised by nearby RIDE checkpoint

An alleged random assault near Lakehead University has landed a man in jail early Friday morning. He’s got a nearby RIDE program checkpoint to thank for his overnight accommodations. Police say at about 1:13 a.m.

An alleged random assault near Lakehead University has landed a man in jail early Friday morning.

He’s got a nearby RIDE program checkpoint to thank for his overnight accommodations.

Police say at about 1:13 a.m. on Friday a lone male was observed approaching and allegedly assaulting two other males, who at the time were with a group of friends.

The 20-year-old suspect fled on foot and, following a brief scuffle, was arrested by police.

The victims and one officer received minor injuries, were treated on scene by paramedics and released.

The suspect, who is being held for court, faces charges of assault, resisting arrest and breach of probation.
