THUNDER BAY -- A witness made a daring citizen's arrest early Sunday morning, helping to put an alleged drunk driver behind bars.
in a release, Thunder Bay Police said just after midnight a northbound vehicle struck a light pole. The driver exited the disabled vehicle and fled on foot.
A witness gave chase and made the arrest, holding the suspect until police arrived shortly afterward.
A 19-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
The suspect then decided to assault the victim in the presence of the police and had an additional charge of assault added to his troubles.
The suspect will appear in court on Sunday.
