THUNDER BAY — A stunt driver was stopped by city police allegedly going 91 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.
On Wednesday, officers were conducting enforcement across the city, and police stopped one car for driving at excessive speeds, part of a two-day enforcement initiative.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Waterloo Street around 8 a.m.
During the traffic stop, the officer suspected the driver might be under the influence of alcohol.
After conducting a roadside screening test, police say the driver registered four times the legal limit for alcohol in their system. They were arrested and brought back to the police station for further testing.
The 40-year-old Thunder Bay resident was charged with impaired driving, speeding, having open alcohol in the vehicle, stunt driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle and having over the legal limit of alcohol in their system.
On top of those charges, the suspect was also charged with failing to surrender their driver's license, ownership and insurance for the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and had their licence suspended for 90 days, including 30 days for having an over 80 BAC. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days, including seven days for stunt driving.
It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects whose cases we do not expect to follow through to its conclusion in court.
