Amazing Race Canada shooting in Thunder Bay (9 photos)

City tourism dep't worked with the producers to bring them here

THUNDER BAY — The popular CTV program Amazing Race Canada has brought contestants and a production team to Thunder Bay.

Local residents spotted cameras in action Monday morning at the Terry Fox Lookout on Highway 11/17.

The participants were driving sub-compact cars, and were seen later at a gas bar on Red River Road.

Thunder Bay Tourism Manager Paul Pepe said his office has provided logistical support to the producers.

The office, he said, had worked for some time to convince them to tape an episode in Thunder Bay, and even suggested shooting locations.

"Any of the major attractions around the city and out in the country as well. Without providing any details, what we did was provide them with a suite of attractions including well-known attractions and other sort of off-the-beaten-path places," Pepe said.

He's not privy to the production company's plans, but according to the network the show's seventh season will begin airing locally on Thunder Bay Television-CKPR, this summer.

Pepe said The Amazing Race crew is "one of the largest media crews" to arrive in the city in some time.

"We're happy to have them here" for the first time, and "we can't wait to see what the final product is."

The show has also filmed segments this year in Revelstoke B.C. and Kamloops, B.C., as well as Yellownkife, N.W.T.
