UPDATE: Abducted two-year-old found safe

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – A suspect has been taken into custody following an Amber Alert for an abducted three-year-old Rainy River, Ont. girl who has been located safely.

Ontario Provincial Police issued the release early Sunday morning, alleging the youngster had been taken by a 36-year-old male suspect.

According to OPP, officers with the Rainy River District detachment were called to a domestic dispute in Chapple Township on Saturday, May 20. Upon arrival, officers learned a suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with a three-year-old female and requested an Amber Alert.

After receiving information on the location of the suspect, OPP officers arrested a 37-year-old Brandon, Man. man.

He has been charged with three counts of assault, one count of choking to overcome resistance, one count of mischief, one count of take a motor vehicle with no consent, and one count of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.  

Police did not provide details of 3-year-old girl’s recovery, but said she was located in good health.

The suspect will appear in court via teleconference on May 22.
