Tuesday marked Day 4 of the Thunder Bay Salmon Fishing Derby and so far local anglers are reporting a noticeable increase in salmon activity in Lake Superior.
Over the first three days of the tournament, 233 fish have been turned in to the weigh scales, and that doesn't include all the smaller fish that are also being caught. Derby chair Doug Lund said a lot of this comes from the efforts being put forth by the local hatchery to stock the lake.
Lund said the average size of the fish being brought in has nearly doubled over last year's derby.
The biggest fish caught so far weighed in at just over 11 pounds.
The derby continues until Saturday.
