PIGEON RIVER, Ont. – Canada’s border with the United States has been closed to non-essential crossings since mid-March, but at least one eager traveler took his chances earlier this week.

Canada Border Services Agency staff on Thursday posted a picture of a staff member handing a declaration form to a fox, the animal’s front paws perched up against the building’s wall beneath the window.

Staff decided to have a little fun with the picture.

“Pigeon River welcomed a special visitor seeking entry for essential reasons. Even wildlife knows to make a full declaration when entering #Canada,” the agency posted to its @CBSANOR Twitter account.

Foxes are a regular sight at the Northern Ontario border crossing, often patrolling the line of cars in search of treats.

The federal government earlier this week announced it was extending the agreement with the United States to keep the land border closed to non-essential traffic until at least Nov. 21.
