THUNDER BAY -- Anishinabek Nation Grand Council and Nishnawbe Aski Nation on Wednesday are expected to call on the Ontario government to take immediate action against the embattled Thunder Bay Police Service.

NDP MPP Sol Mamakwa will also take part in the event, scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. at Queen's Park in Toronto.

"Ongoing investigations with the Ontario Civilian Policing Commission, the Ontario Human Rights Commission, and the Office of the Independent Police Review Director have proven to be ineffective in stopping violence perpetrated against Indigenous peoples. Anishinabek, Mushkegowuk, and all Indigenous peoples have the right to feel safe and to be treated equitably within the City of Thunder Bay, especially by those sworn to serve and protect," reads a join release issued on Tuesday night bey ANGC and NAN.

Thunder Bay Police leadership is under investigation and is also facing a number of human rights complaints.
