THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports 30 new COVID-19 cases in its catchment area, and the death of another person infected by the virus.
The death toll across the district during the pandemic now stands at 33.
Of the new cases, 22 are the result of close contact, six are pending, and two have no known exposure.
Twenty-seven cases are in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding townships, and three are in First Nations communities.
The TBDHU said that, with 37 previous cases resolved since Sunday, the current active caseload stands at 462, eight fewer than on Sunday
It said 36 area residents are receiving treatment in hospital, including 10 in the intensive care unit.
The total number of cases across the district since the onset of the pandemic has now reached 2,024.
It took 313 days to reach 1,000 cases, but only 34 days to go from 1,000 to over 2,000.
