THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says another resident has died after contracting the COVID-19 virus.
This brings the death toll in the district since the pandemic began to 39.
The TBDHU on Wednesday also reported another sharp increase in active cases.
The 68 new cases include 61 in the city and surrounding area, six in district communities, and one in a First Nation.
The source of 18 cases is listed as household contact, while 26 are other close contacts, one is related to the Walford retirement home outbreak, 11 have no known exposure source, and 12 remain under investigation.
With 46 previous cases being resolved since Tuesday, the active case count in the TBDHU's service area has risen to 424, compared with 403 on Tuesday.
There are 38 COVID-19 patients from the district in hospital, including eight in the ICU.
