Two weeks into a state of emergency called due to a rash of residential fires, another home has burned down on the Mishkeegogamang First Nation.

The 10-year-old trailer that was home to a pair of families, and a total of seven people, burned to the ground at 3 a.m. Thursday.

No one was injured and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers are investigating the cause.

Over the past three months, six homes have burned down, claiming the lives of 12 members of the community just south of Pickle Lake.

Chief Connie Gray-McKay is calling for every home to undergo risk assessment as she's organizing fire drills and escape training for children.

The First Nation lacks indoor heated space for firefighting equipment, which has frozen over the winter.

The community has been living under a housing crisis that has been mounting for more than a decade.
