Another Thunder Bay district resident has died after contracting COVID-19

This is the 73rd death from COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic.

THUNDER BAY — The COVID-19 virus has taken the life of another resident of the Thunder Bay district.

The health unit reported the individual's passing Wednesday.

Seventy-three district residents have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic started.

TBDHU also reported 104 new positive lab test results, and the resolution of 64 previously confirmed cases.

This brought the district's active case count to 330.

Among the new cases, 13 are due to household contact, 15 are the result of other close contacts, and 16 have no known exposure source.

The remainder are under investigation.

Ninety-three of the new cases involve residents of Thunder Bay or the immediate surrounding area, six are in district communities, and five are in First Nation communities.

According to TBDHU, the number of district residents in hospital with COVID-19 on Wednesday fell to 12, five fewer than on Tuesday.

One of these patients is in the intensive care unit.
