THUNDER BAY — A blast of cold Arctic air will keep Thunder Bay and area residents in the deep freeze for most of the week.
Environment Canada's forecast calls for daily maximum temperatures as much as 13 degrees below normal for this time of year.
Similarly, overnight lows will be up to 11 degrees below normal.
"We're looking at an Arctic invasion...It's really cold," says meteorologist Gerald Cheng.
Cheng said a high pressure system is pushing a pool of frigid air into northwestern Ontario from the prairies.
The normal high for this time of year is -5 C.
Over the next four days, maximums will be -13, -18, -18 and -15.
Wind chill will be a factor as well, with a risk of frostbite as the wind makes it feel like -30 Monday night and -31 during the day on Tuesday.
"We finished November on the warm side, and the start of December as well, but you can kiss that goodbye," Cheng said, noting that seasonal temperatures won't return until Friday.
