Janzen’s Pharamcy on Frederica Street West was the scene of an armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon.
Police say a lone male entered the pharmacy at about 5:20 p.m., and robbed the store at knifepoint. The suspect made off with a small quantity of prescription medicine.
The suspect is described as a thinly built Native Canadian, standing about six feet tall. He was wearing a black toque with the letters “bula” written in lower-case letters. The toque had a grey brim. The man was also wearing black gloves and a black felt-like jacket with a hood.
Police spokeswoman Julie TIlbury said while there haven't been a rash of pharmacy robberies of late, they do occur. Whether or not to expect a spate of similar crimes, she wasn't sure.
"We don't know who this is or what their motive is behind it, so we can't really speculate," Tilbury said. "However we do know we have a number of people in our community with prescription (drug) issues and that this is always a concern to use because obviously these people are desperate and trying to get more medication and drugs that are going to help with their addiction issue.
"We just want to urge people when these incidents do happen, to remain as calm as possible and get through the situation."
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
