A large infusion of money will be coming from the province to improve Ontario's fire-fighting facilities.

Nearly $47 million will be dished out, with almost $10 million going toward a new fire attack base in Armstrong.

At a news conference Friday, it was announced that the aging Armstrong base will the recipient of new infrastructure. The living quarters will be upgraded to accommodate 20 extra staff, and new helipads will be added as well.

Other additions include a new warehouse and back-up generator.

Sudbury will be receiving $25 million for fire-fighting infrastructure and renovations to its fire management centre. And just more than $12 million will be going to Haliburton to build a new fire management headquarters.

Response and operations manager Dave Cleaveley says the upgrades to the Armstrong base are greatly needed.

Construction at the Armstrong base is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks. Completion of the project is slated for fall of next year.
