Police have found the alleged driver of a vehicle involved in an early morning hit-and-run that left an 18-year-old woman in the hospital with serious injuries.
Amy Neumueller is "fighting for her life" at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Thunder Bay Police Services said in a release issued Thursday afternoon.
A 22-year-old woman has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision. She turned herself in later in the day after a police plea to the public for information. Police did not provide the woman's name.
Police officers say they responded to reports of a vehicle and pedestrian collision near the 400 block of Leslie Avenue at about 3 a.m. on Thursday.
The Thunder Bay Police traffic unit is still investigating the incident.
"Amy was crossing the street when she was struck by a south-bound compact car on Leslie Avenue," police say in the release. "The vehicle left the scene immediately in a south-bound direction on Leslie Avenue. no attempts were made by the driver to stop at the time of the collision or later."
Police say investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who has information on the collision. Potential witnesses are being asked to contact police at 807-684-1200.
Police say further details about the incident are expected to be released on Friday.
