Regina Avenue residents say they’re shocked and concerned about a string of fires that happened early Sunday morning.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers say the three fires that happened on Regina Avenue were deliberate. One of the fires happened as early 4 a.m. and another around 10:30 a.m. in a garage.
Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue were able to bring that fire under control but heat from the fire damaged the two vehicles that were in the garage at the time. No one was in the garage at the time of the fire.
Police say all the fires caused severe damage.
Residents in the area told Tbnewswatch.com that the recent fires have them concerned about the safety of their neighbourhood.
Peter Dumoulin lives a few doors down from where the third fire took place. He has lived in the neighbourhood for the past 17 years and said he can’t remember anything like this happening before. The only problems he could remember were a few cars being broken into, he said.
“First time anything like this happened around here,” Dumoulin said. “Never had problems before but I’m going to have to be more cautious now.”
Dumoulin added that he believed the same owner owns two of the homes that are being investigated.
An elderly couple who did not wish to give their names to Tbnewswatch.com said they were shocked when they heard about the news and didn’t feel as safe in the neighbourhood anymore.
“It’s unnerving,” the woman said. “I can’t believe it happened.”
But not everyone on the block felt they had to improve their security.
Mario Uliana has lived in the area for the past 30 years and said he doesn’t feel any less safe.
‘I don’t know what happened I was watching TV,” Uliana said. “I don’t feel any less safe.”
