Arson suspected in Machar Avenue vehicle fires

Police say a van, truck and trailer were deliberately set on fire over the course of two nights this week.

THUNDER BAY – Suspicious vehicle fires in the Machar Avenue area have led police to open an arson investigation.

Police, in a release issued on Thursday, say reports of a two vehicles engulfed in flames in the 100 block of the north-side street were received at about 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Further investigation led them to understand a trailer at the same address had caught fire the previous night and that Thunder Bay Fire Rescue had been called upon to extinguish the flames.

The truck and van suffered extensive damage and have been towed by police for further investigation and anyone with information is asked to phone police at 684-1200. Anonymous calls can also be placed to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or tips can be given at www.tipsubmit.com.
