THUNDER BAY - A Fort Frances man has been charged with attempted murder following an assault that occured Thursday on James Street.

Jordan Windego, 25, also faces charges of aggravated assault and obstructing a peace officer in connection with the incident, following his arrest early Saturday morning.

The arrest came after police responded to reports of two individuals with knives in the hallway of a May Street apartment around 2:20 a.m. Saturday. Upon further investigation, police say they located Windego inside an apartment.

An investigation by the Major Crimes Unit led to the prior identification of the Windego as a suspect in Thursday's assault, and the issuing of a warrant for his arrest, police said.

Police discovered a male victim with serious injuries in the 700s block of James Street late Thursday morning. Police described the injuries as "life-threatening," but say the man is now recovering at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Windego is in custody, with a court appearance set for June 15.
