Auto-pedestrian collisions sends one woman to hospital

City police are investigating an auto-pedestrian collision that occurred late Thursday night.

THUNDER BAY -- A 21-year-old female pedestrian was taken to hospital after being struck by a driver Thursday night on Dawson Road.

According to a police release, police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian around 10:46 p.m. and a Dodge Ram pickup truck on Dawson Road near Strand Avenue.

The investigation revealed that the truck was travelling westbound on Dawson Road between Highway 11/17 and Strand Avenue when the driver encountered several pedestrians crossing the roadway.

The driver of the truck took evasive action to avoid hitting one of the pedestrians, but in doing so the driver struck another pedestrian.

The 21-year-old sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital for medical treatment and remains in the intensive care unit.

The 52-year-old male driver did not sustain any injuries.

The roadway was closed for several hours as the Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit attended the scene to gather evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
