THUNDER BAY — Bouncing along to the thumping beat of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, roughly 90 local babies had an unconventional afternoon on the town Tuesday.
Thunder Bay parents and caregivers met at the Waverley Resource Library to treat their little ones to a fun new experience, a baby rave.
Skyla Raison, a children and youth services programming technician at Waverley, said the event is a new way for family members and children in the community to connect and bond over music and crafts.
Under glowing black lights, the event kicked off with a story and childhood classic songs remixed in electronic dance music, followed by crafts and games to enjoy, she said.
“We are trying to provide a space where parents can come socialize and interact with their baby and have a good time,” she said.
“It's not really one of those first experiences you can just provide for your child. We thought it would be something different for the community.”
Baby rave started as a social media trend and has gained popularity for its inclusive atmosphere, said Raison.
“There's opportunities for them to do glow in the dark magnet tiles, there's a nontoxic glow in the dark tattoo parlour in there, there's glow in the dark baby footprints like a glow bug, opportunities for photos and play and just to kind of enjoy a new experience,” she said.
