THUNDER BAY - A Toronto man facing a series of firearm and drug trafficking charges in connection to a drug seizure from last October will have to wait another two weeks to set a new date for a bail hearing.

Jerimiah Edwards, 21, appeared in bail court on Thursday morning by video for a bail hearing, however, his matter was adjourned to April 24 at the request of his counsel Karen Scullion to set a new date in order to have further discussions with her client.

Thunder Bay police officers were initially dispatched to a residence in the 200-block of Pearl Street just before 8:30 p.m. last October following reports of a disturbance involving a break-in and a firearm, a previous Thunder Bay Police Service media release stated.

Police located four suspects from the Toronto area in a vehicle following a high-risk arrest in the zero-100 block of Lake Street on Oct. 21.

Inside the vehicle, police located a handgun and seized crack cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately $16,000 and fentanyl with an estimated street value of approximately $5,000. Officers also seized $5,000 in Canadian currency during the arrest.

Edwards along with three others, Jatorri Williams, 19, Jaisha Rina Mesquito, 19 and Tenisha Crystal Smith, 21, were all arrested.

Further details of the offences heard in court on Thursday are protected by a court-ordered publication ban.

Some of Edwards's charges include one count of breaking and entering with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless handling of firearm and more.

He is scheduled to appear back in court by video on April 24 to set a new date for a bail hearing.
