THUNDER BAY - A former Thunder Bay city councilor charged with attempted murder will remain in custody.

A bail hearing that was scheduled to take place for 72-year-old Larry Hebert on Tuesday in a Thunder Bay Courtroom did not proceed.

David Young, who is representing Hebert, requested the matter be put over to Jan. 16 for a judicial pre-trial.

Young indicated that a surety might be secured to meet bail conditions for release and that matter will be dealt with on the next date.

Hebert, who was first elected to city council in 2006 and served three terms before losing his reelection bid in 2018, was charged with attempted murder following an incident at his Vickers Street South home on Nov. 14, 2019.

According to the initial media release from the Thunder Bay Police Service, an individual was attacked by a male at the residence and was also threatened. The individual was able to flee to another residence to call 911.

There is a publication ban in place on the details of this case.

Hebert appeared in person on Tuesday and was remanded into custody until Jan. 16, 2020.
