The City of Thunder Bay is expected to provide more details Monday about an act of vandalism that resulted in the escape of a bald eagle from the wildlife exhibit at Chippewa Park.

Details of the incident have not been released as yet, but a spokesperson for the city says the bird "will be in distress" because it has lived in captivity for an extended period.

A message on the city's Facebook page asks residents to keep an eye out for the bird, which may be found walking on the ground somewhere in the Chippewa area.

The message asks that residents not attempt to capture it, as bald eagles can be dangerous to handle, especially while under stress.

Anyone spotting the bird is asked to contact the city's 24-hour dispatch line at 625 -2195, so that Parks staff can be directed to the location and make an effort to recapture the eagle.
