THUNDER BAY -- A north side home sustained heavy smoke damage in a fire late Friday night.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to an 11 p.m. call on Hinton Avenue to find the home owners standing outside of the residence.
Firefighters advanced lines to the rear of the home and a side basement window.
Most of the fire and smoke damage was restricted to the basement and one room of the structure's main floor.
One firefighter was taken to hospital with a sprained ankle and was quickly released.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The investigation continues.
