A 42-year-old-man received non-life threatening injuries after a bear attacked him twice while camping at Sandbar Lake Provincial Park over the long weekend.
Ignace OPP reported that the man was out camping at the park when a mature black bear attacked him on Saturday. He had gone for a walk with his two dogs and had stopped near a body of water in order to give his dogs a drink.
Police say a bear then came up from behind and attacked him.
The man was able to escape by going into the water. After waiting a few minutes, police say the man felt it was safe enough to go back to his campsite.
The bear appeared to have followed the man and attacked again at the campsite. Police say the dogs stepped in to try to protect him.
The man was able to escape again and made it to the park ranger station. He was later transported to the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Police had shot the bear and the animal fled into the bush.
Provincial park officials confirmed at 8 a.m. Monday they caught the bear responsible for the attack.
The bear was caught in a live trap.
The trails surrounding the park are still closed as park officials finish their investigation.
