Bear suspected of attacking MNR employee found, killed

Officials with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources say they have successfully tracked down and killed a bear believed to have been involved in an attack on an MNR employee earlier this week.

Officials with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources say they have successfully tracked down and killed a bear believed to have been involved in an attack on an MNR employee earlier this week.

The attack took place Tuesday in the area Wabikan Lake, north of Thunder Bay, when a female wildlife assessment worker was mauled by a black bear.

The animal was eventually driven off by a co-worker.

MNR officials say the bear killed had injuries consistent with those inflicted during an attack on a human.

DNA samples will be analyzed to confirm it was the same animal.

Meanwhile, the MNR has declined to comment on the condition of the victim, citing privacy reasons.
