In Beardmore, a new $1.4-million multipurpose centre received the green light after confirmation of a $655,000 provincial grant.

Minister of Northern Development Michael Gravelle made the announcement before a crowd of more than 50 residents and Greenstone officials Tuesday. Beardmore officials say the facility will be a one-stop shop for residents and visitors alike.

Beardmore's municipal offices, tourist information centre, public library and health clinic will all be located in the centre.

The new building site will be built beside Beardmore's giant snowman landmark. Gravelle said it is great news for a town that deserves a lift.

Greenstone Mayor Michael Power said the project is also being funded through $250,000 from FedNor. The remaining $500,000 will come from municipal coffers.

Power said construction is expected to start within the next year.
