Bearskin Lake teen faces murder charge

Police arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy with second-degree murder following an incident at Bearskin Lake Sunday. Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service officers say they were called to the nursing station in Bearskin Lake early Sunday morning.

Police arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy with second-degree murder following an incident at Bearskin Lake Sunday.

Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service officers say they were called to the nursing station in Bearskin Lake early Sunday morning. Officers arrived and were told that one man had been pronounced dead at the scene, and that another 19-year-old man had been flown to Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout for treatment.

Pronounced dead was Neil Fiddler, 20, of Bearskin Lake. A post mortem examination will take place at the chief coroner’s office in Toronto on Wednesday.

Police have not released any other details about this incident.

The OPP’s North West region crime unit is assisting NAPS with the investigation.

A 15-year-old boy from Bearskin Lake is now in custody and faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder.

The suspect’s name cannot be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth is expected to appear in a Kenora courtroom on Wednesday, Aug. 18.
