THUNDER BAY -- EcoSuperior is making it easier to get to the Thunder Bay Country Market this summer.

EcoSuperior’s safe and secure Bike Valet program will be set up every at every Wednesday and Saturday market through August to promote sustainable transportation and ease parking pressure.

The Bike Valet consists of portable racks and the service works the same way a coat check works. Cyclists exchange their bikes for a ticket. EcoSuperior staff are the Valets who supervise the bikes during the event. When a cyclist is ready to leave, they simply present their ticket to the Valet to get their bike back. All bikes are welcome, including tandems, trail-a-bikes, and trailers too! Donations collected for the Bike Valet help support environmental programs in our community.

EcoSuperior’s Bike Valet Coordinator Carter Sakiyama is looking forward to engaging both spontaneous and regular market-goers. “Using the Bike Valet is a great way to enjoy fresh air and fresh food,”Sakiyama suggests. “Once you try the service, you’ll realize how quick and easy it is to park your bike. Cycling to the market could easily become part of your weekly routine!”

Launched in 2014 with the help of a grant from TBay Tel for Good, the Bike Valet program has been running seasonally at different events around the City. The program continues to gain popularity and participation each summer.

Market Manager Annet Maurer says, “We’ve heard from our customers that making it easier to walk and bike to the Market is important to them. We are thrilled to be working with EcoSuperior on this initiative. At the same time, we’ve got the new access gate along May St, making it safer for walkers and bikers to get to the Dove building.”

Reduce your carbon footprint, eat healthy, and stay active with the Bike Valet at the Country Market from June 24 until the end of August.
