Thunder Bay and area residents will have to cope with abnormally cold weather after they dig out from the latest snowfall.
Environment Canada's forecast shows a swing to daytime temperatures well below what's usual for this time of year, starting Wednesday.
"Very cold, bitterly cold through at least the next week or so," said meteorologist Mark Shuster.
The forecast daytime highs Wednesday through Sunday range between -18 C and minus -15 C, compared with the normal of -9 C. Overnight lows will fall between -23 C and minus -27 C.
Environment Canada on Tuesday morning downgraded the winter storm warning for Thunder Bay to a snowfall warning, and total snow accumulation from this weather system is expected to be about 20 centimetres, which is "a little bit less than originally anticipated," Shuster said.
He added that the current forecast shows no other winter storms on the horizon for the Thunder Bay area.
"Conditions should be fairly calm, just mainly cold, but it looks like there will be quite a bit of sunshine, which raises the spirits a little bit."
