LONDON, Ont. – Spencer Blackwell is heating up at just the right time.

Less than 24 hours after scoring a hat trick to lead Lakehead to a 6-3 win over the Western Mustangs, Blackwell was at it again on Saturday afternoon, scoring the overtime winner 6:59 into the extra frame to deliver a 5-4 Thunderwolves triumph and a weekend sweep to close out the pre-Christmas portion of the OUA men’s hockey team’s schedule.

It was their third straight win.

Rookie forward Keighan Gerrie scored the equalizer with 15 seconds to play in regulation, the fifth goal of his freshman campaign.

Kyle Auger, Griffen Fox and Colin Van Den Hurk also scored for Lakehead, who trailed 1-0 after one and 4-3 after two.

Christian Cicigoi made 32 saves to earn the win for Lakehead (9-5-2), who finish the first half with 20 points.

Riley MacRae, Reed Morrison, Jake Gravelle and Sean Montgomery scored for ninth-place Western (3-7-5).
