The Chiefs of the two First Nations near the mining exploration zone known as the Ring of Fire are getting close to lifting the blockade at the site's access point.

Marten Falls Chief Elijah Moonias and Webequie Chief Cornelius Wabasse., along with First Nation representatives, started the blockade last month. They're protesting for a number of issues including involving First Nations in the development. Moonias said they've received letters of response from the provincial government and three of the major companies which he said sound positive. However, the document doesn't contain a place for signatures.

Moonias said they'll be drafting up a memorandum of understanding listing the issues. Once the document is signed by all parties, Moonias said the blockade will be removed. He expects it will take at least two weeks to finalize the signed document.
